You can crush the others with one insane combo multipliers or you can play it a bit safer and bring the points up slowly by going from one section of the arena to another. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater and Goat Simulator fans will feel familiar in this environment as there’s a limited-time to crank out the biggest score you can to beat the competition. Each of the freestyle/destruction events present the player with an arena full of obstacles to collide with, jumps to fly over, and small cars to crush. As someone who saw many monster truck shows at the Pacific National Exhibition and a handful of Monster Jam shows, these events are what you go to live shows to see. When you eventually reach a race that puts you in the front, it becomes extremely noticeable just how much the other racers can sabotage your experience.įreestyle and Destruction events are my favorite game mode of Monster Truck Championship as these are what truly encapsulate the monster truck experience for me. On top of the sticky racers, it also felt like the monster trucks hugged barriers once colliding with them, making comebacks very difficult. At one point, another monster truck was unrealistically stuck to me for over a minute as I took harsh turns, hopped over jumps, and hit other racers in an effort to shake them. Not only do the monster trucks fittingly handle like trucks on ice, but I often found myself being sabotaged by a wall of metal and rubber which often stuck to me, reducing my speed, grounding my jumps, and making handling the vehicle infinitely harder to control. This makes racing feel as unique as skateboarding felt in the Skate series. One analog stick controls the front tires of your vehicle, while the rear tires are handled by the other analog stick. This sports game comes in English, Portuguese (Brazil), French, and Spanish subtitles.Racing is your typical circuit racing, though it may feel clunky to racing fans. Switch from first person to third person mode to get a different vibe and watch the replay after you’ve completed the destruction. If your monster truck actually tilts over or lands upside-down, (because it’s a video game), your truck eventually moves back to driving position. The camera mode will switch to a slow-motion effect while you perform big jumps, getting you excited about the results of the landing. Also, when you see the monster truck stand on the back of its two wheels moving forward like a dog, it may make you feel like you’re actually at a monster truck arena. The arena have commentary, you get points for how much you crush objects (like cars and trailers) and wound up landing technical back flips, double back flips, and front flips with the truck. You already know what to expect from the gameplay, but after physically playing the game, you’d likely love the game. If you like what you see (because you can literally look up the gameplay online), you can just get to smashing some auto parts as the biggest, baddest monster truck around. You’re in control of the monster truck’s rotation and can speed up while glancing at the visible acceleration. You can be the judge of that, since the game was available on Steam ever since October 15, 2020. With this addictive, action and simulation game, there’s an argument that during races, when the trucks are spread out, it can get boring. There’s a “Training” mode and in the “Garage,” you can customize how you want your monster truck to look. There’s a destruction mode, time attack mode and online where up to 8 players can race against each other. With 16 monster trucks, you’ll be in two types of racing: conventional circuit racing and drag racing. In several game modes, the player can race on 25 circuits in 10 different cities across the United States. In “Career” mode, three championship tiers, each featuring 10 main events. Just the sound of the crushing if you close your eyes is satisfying. There’s room for fireworks and you’ll visit the major stadiums to please everyone’s desire to see oversized trucks fly in the air and crush. You can go past the legal speed limit and it’s all done in a monster truck arena where an understanding, jam-packed crowd cheers you on.
